Silk velvet is a soft, elegant fabric that looks and feels expensive. It drapes better than other velvet, falling close to the body. It is S-L-I-N-K-Y.

This fabric normally retails for $40-50/yd.

Silk velvet is most often used for loose, full, flowing garments with less bulk than cotton velvets. It is popular for dresses, evening wear and 16th century historical garments (great for Court garb!). Choose styles that make the most of its drapeability. Difficult to sew because silk velvet is so-o-o-o slippery. Pin and sew carefully, pins and needles show holes. Worth the effort.
